About us

A unique orchestra

"Every country should have a lively, passionate orchestra like the Cadaqués. The fact that it is an ensemble of Mediterranean origin with a clear cosmopolitan vision makes it a unique orchestra."
Sir Neville Marriner, Honorary conductor of the Cadaqués Orchestra (1992-2016)

The Cadaqués Orchestra is a special case among European orchestras. It was founded in 1988, at the Festival of Cadaqués, on the initiative of a group of young musicians whose goal was to create an opening in the world of symphony music where they could express their enthusiasm, commitment and passion for music.

Despite the passing of time the orchestra has remained faithful to these principles: we are as passionate as ever about what we do, we enjoy every project, and we are absolutely committed to achieving the highest quality in each production.

This ambitious vision has given rise to other projects parallel to the orchestra itself, which have strengthened the original artistic project:

  • We show a close commitment to both the recovery of authors from the past and the promotion of contemporary composers, having established a publishing house and record label for this purpose:Tritó Edicions.
  • We set up the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition, which is one of the most important in the world.
  • We have launched the BCN Clàssics Season at the Palau de la Música Catalana, where, apart from performing ourselves, we invite leading international orchestras and soloists who remind us of the importance of making music of the highest quality and the pleasure in doing so.

Thanks to this determination and ability to transmit musical repertoire at the highest level – and as attractively as possible – we have become the Spanish symphony orchestra with the greatest international projection. Besides being the resident orchestra during the Ibermúsica Season in Madrid, and performing regularly in Zaragoza, Bilbao, Barcelona, Lleida, the Canaries and Valencia, we have engagements in the near future in Germany, Austria, Holland, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Slovenia.

All this has shaped our past and our present and encourages us to continue improving and continue pursuing the same goals that we defined at the time of our foundation, and with the same enthusiasm.

Thank you for listening to us and following us.
