Objective
Candidates who have not demonstrated sufficient merits to be directly selected and therefore have not been accepted directly before September 17 may apply to take part in the special preliminary round that will allow them, if they pass it, to enter the competition
Venue
The preliminary round will take place on 12 and 13 December 2017 at the Sala Art i Joia in Cadaqués.
Number of contestants
The preliminary round is open to a maximum of 60 contestants.
The Chamber Ensemble of the Cadaqués Orchestra will select a maximum of ten contestants to go on to the first round of the competition along with the other fifty conductors selected directly.
Registration fee
Those candidates applying to take part in the preliminary round will have until 30 September 2017 to pay the registration fee, send proof of payment, and send all the information requested by the organization. The registration fee is identical to the fee paid by directly selected candidates and covers the same items. [See RULES, 1.4.1.]
The registration fee is 350.00 euros (net of bank commissions) and must be paid by bank transfer.
Of these €350, €200 correspond to the cost of accommodation and €150 correspond to the participation fee. If contestants prefer, they can pay only the participation fee (€150), in which case they will be responsible for finding their own accommodation.
The ten candidates who pass the preliminary round will not have to pay the registration fee again, but will have to pay €200 for the accommodation of the following days unless they prefer to find their own accommodation.

Venue: Sala Art i Joia de Cadaqués
Contestants will be called to perform in alphabetical order, beginning with a first letter chosen at random by the organisers.
PRELIMINARY ROUND
Tuesday 12 December 2017, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday 13 December 2017, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Repertoire
The contestants will conduct Stravinsky’s Histoire du soldat (Chester Music ISBN: 0711938415) with the Chamber Ensemble of the Cadaqués Orchestra. Each contestant will be allowed a maximum of 10 minutes in this round.
Jury
The jury judging the preliminary round will be formed by each of the members of the Chamber Ensemble of the Cadaqués Orchestra. Each member will have one vote.
Jury’s decision
Wednesday 13 December 2017 at 7 p.m.
Venue: Sala Art i Joia de Cadaqués
Once the preliminary round has finished, the jury will announce which conductors have been selected to go on to participate in the XII Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition.
