A few words from the artistic director

Llorenç Caballero
The Cadaqués Orchestra was founded twenty-three years ago within the context of the Festival of Cadaqués, with the idea of creating a quality project based on the talent and professionalism of the musicians and conductors who perform in the ensemble. This unanimous artistic vision has inspired the creation of a team always ready to surpass itself and with artistic excellence as the shared leitmotif.
The Cadaqués Orchestra is a project that aims to serve all those involved in the world of music: musicians, conductors and composers, forgotten composers from the past and, ultimately, the public who love good music.
This 2011/2012 season the Cadaqués Orchestra has some new proposals:
We started the season with the singer Nina, presenting the show “From Broadway to Parallel” at major theatres and concert halls around Catalonia: Terrassa, Cornellà, Vilafranca, Lleida, Manresa, Figueres, Viladecans, Esparreguera and Vilanova, and also at the usual venues where the Cadaqués Orchestra performs, the auditoriums of Zaragoza and Girona, at the latter with season tickets for the first time, in order to further consolidate the orchestra’s Girona residency, which dates from 2003. We have also travelled abroad, touring Germany and giving concerts in Hanover, Frankfurt and Cologne, accompanied by the renowned French harpist Xavier de Maistre and led by our principal conductor, Gianandrea Noseda.
The season will continue, in 2012, with a contemporary music tour, with concerts at the National Auditorium in Madrid, Zaragoza, Bilbao, and newly in Girona to mark the centenary of Xavier Montsalvatge, who was the orchestra’s in-house composer. This will be followed by a Baroque programme, performing works by Vivaldi, Bach and Pergolesi, and featuring the violinist Ara Malikian alongside Jaime Martin in his dual role as conductor and flautist, with concerts in Girona, Zaragoza and El Escorial. The season closes in early June, with Sir Neville Marriner, our principal guest conductor, back for our greater enjoyment. He will offer us his vision of Mozart's Requiem.
The summer promises to be busy, with concerts at the Esterházy (Austria), Rheingau (Germany), El Escorial and Peralada festivals among others, and in July we will be organising the meeting of young talent from our youth orchestra, the Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines, which will be based at the Girona Auditorium.
Thank you for your attention.
