Xavier Montsalvatge
A chance to present a new repertoire and the commission of a new work
The competition repertoire combines famous orchestral works with lesser-known works from the Spanish repertoire – unpublished and revived pieces by musicians from the past, which despite their quality had been forgotten or had not been performed or re-edited since the time they were composed.
The competition includes a work commissioned to a Spanish composer, which is premiered in the competition final. The guest composers on previous occasions were Ramon Lazkano, Jesús Torres, Jesús Rueda, Xavier Montsalvatge, Cristobal Halffter, Luis de Pablo, Juan Guinjoan, Lleonard Balada, David del Puerto and José María Sánchez Verdú.
